Vancouver,
BC – April 21, 2017 – Two VCAD
Fashion
Design students,
Zohreh Alipour and
Kel Dumana, have been
selected as finalists in the 2017
White Cashmere Collection: Student Design
Competition. The White Cashmere Collection is an internationally acclaimed
showcase for Canadian fashion designers. This year, they have called on
students from across the country to put their talents to the test and create
unique, one-of-a-kind designs in celebration of Canada’s 150th
birthday.
Eleven Canadian fashion design schools and more than 150 students
are participating in the competition. They will create original couture pieces
made of Cashmere Bathroom Tissue and just sixteen student finalists have been
selected to display their pieces at an invitation only, VIP fashion show on
September 28th in Toronto. A panel of Canadian fashion community
celebrity judges will select three winners who will each receive a bursary to
help further their education.
"I am incredibly happy to be a part
of White Cashmere Collection,” says finalist Dumana. “I have always regarded it as a privilege
when my artistic pursuits engender meaningful causes and so it was even more
exciting to be making my piece for this competition knowing that."
Past White Cashmere Collection designers are serving as Student
Mentors to help students with their creations, including VCAD Fashion
instructor and Vancouver designer
Jason Matlo.
“I’m honoured to be part of #Cashmere17,” says Matlo. “VCAD has
some of the strongest design talent in the country and the collection will
allow our students to show their work on a national stage,” he says.
