Typographic Poster - Easy Peasy, Lemon Squeezy

The goal of this project was to make a typographic poster based on a common phrase or saying in Adobe Illustrator. I explored how typography could work alongside illustrations to create a beautiful and cohesive outcome. I chose the phrase ‘easy peasy, lemon squeezy,’ as I thought it would be a good opportunity to play with vibrant colours and fun action...

I explored how typography could work alongside illustrations to create a beautiful and cohesive outcome. I chose the phrase ‘easy peasy, lemon squeezy,’ as I thought it would be a good opportunity to play with vibrant colours and fun action words. I thoroughly enjoy drawing fruit when using more traditional mediums, so it was a wonderful chance to use a more cartoony, vectorized style to recreate the lemon and lemon slices

Color Study -- Still Life Fabric Drapery

This assignment was intended to be a colour exercise, but evolved into a more fully fleshed-out still-life painting. I was instructed to choose two contrasting colours (one lighter and one darker in hues) and paint the composition with exclusively those colours (except for minimal uses of white and black as needed). I was intimidated by this project, as I wasn’t...

This assignment was intended to be a colour exercise, but evolved into a more fully fleshed-out still-life painting. I was instructed to choose two contrasting colours (one lighter and one darker in hues) and paint the composition with exclusively those colours (except for minimal uses of white and black as needed). I was intimidated by this project, as I wasn’t used to the concept of painting something I didn’t see -- such as the colours of this (originally green) towel. After completing this acrylic painting, it left me wanting to experiment more with using a limited colour pallet in future pieces and urged me to try more new things when it came to painting.

I chose the brand name ‘Golden Toad,’ as Oolong tea originates in China, and in Chinese culture, it is very common to have tea pets involved in tea ceremonies. A golden toad is a common tea pet to be used in these ceremonies, as it is said to bring great luck and fortune...

A golden toad is a common tea pet to be used in these ceremonies, as it is said to bring great luck and fortune to those at the ceremony (hence the tagline - ‘bring the luck of the golden toad’). The illustrations for this project were made in Illustrator using a limited colour palette of 2 colours.

Still Life Drawing - Glass

For this project, the goal was to create a still-life composition comprised of various glass items, as well as other items in and around the glass. I chose to use an empty wine bottle, a wine glass, a small alcohol glass, a pepper, and an espresso cup. I used gray cardstock as the background for this piece to make the illusion of transparency stronger. Since I used...

I chose to use an empty wine bottle, a wine glass, a small alcohol glass, a pepper, and an espresso cup. I used gray cardstock as the background for this piece to make the illusion of transparency stronger. Since I used a non-white background, I was able to draw both the shadows and the highlights to emphasize the shiny, smooth surfaces and reflections of light. This whole image was created with various graphite pencils between F-HB, as well as a white charcoal pencil for highlights.
