Elephant Clouds was one of the most challenging and fulfilling projects I had the privilege of working on during my time at VCAD. This project gave me the opportunity to practice shading, lighting and overall consistency in my illustration style while bringing every element together in a cohesive layout design. Elephant Clouds was written and illustrated not only for kids but as a reminder to individuals of all ages to let their imaginations soar while holding onto that childlike joy and wonder.

This ad campaign encourages young viewers to explore simple ways to support their mental health and the mental health of those around them. The main ad focuses on an illustrated character in a saddened state and gives viewers the option to scan a QR code to discover ways that this character can find help and encouragement. Viewers are brought to a landing page on the CMHA website that showcases a variety of options and tricks to combat things like negativity, fear and anxiety. This web page also gives kids the opportunity to get mental health support and connect with someone from a team of professionals at the Canadian Mental Health Association. I included a wall sticker design in this ad campaign to allow schools to place this positive message and reminder around kids daily. The ad is placed lower than eye level to encourage individuals to make an effort to meet the character where they are at, similar to what we do when connecting with friends who are going through tough times, to be a listening ear and support to them. The landing page for this ad campaign was designed to hold the attention of young viewers with the help of illustrative visuals, clear buttons, large headers and a steady blue line that guides eyes through the content on the page

Solace is an imaginary small business tea company that sells a variety of fair-trade teas and tea accessories. The goal at Solace is to provide consumers with top-quality teas that are both delicious and fun to collect. Each type of tea is paired with a unique character and colour, helping to differentiate between tea types and flavours while encouraging customers to collect all the characters and share the cute and collectible teas with friends.

I took inspiration from my favourite season for this illustration project. The joy and wonder that surrounded the Christmas holidays growing up as a child encourages so much of my creativity and imagination today. The snow angels, gently falling snowflakes, bright shining stars and carrot-nosed snowmen all contribute to my love for even the coldest Manitoba winter. And what can beat a cup of hot chocolate in front of a cozy fireplace after a day of snowy outdoor exploration? I enjoyed the challenge of capturing that childlike wonder in this piece. Little does the little elf know that the snowman has come to life, winking and slightly wincing as the little character climbs onto its head to reach for the bright star. Some light blush is added to the snowman’s cheeks to personify it further, adding life and warmth to the winter wonderland. The shining star provides a beautiful contrast with the cold and dark evening sky. The snowman and elf wear green and red, further encompassing the joy-filled Christmas season and the warm glow from the star reflects gently off each element in the piece to leave viewers feeling cozy.
